Free Tools › PDF & Document Translator
Drop a PDF or text file. We pull out the text on your device, let you edit it, then translate it into your language.
- ✓ Text extracted on your device
- ✓ 33 languages
- ✓ Download as .txt
Text-based PDFs work best. Scanned PDFs (photos of pages) have no text layer, so nothing can be extracted. Layout, images and tables are not kept: you get clean translated text.
How to use the PDF & Document Translator
- Choose a PDF (with selectable text) or a .txt file.
- Check the extracted text and pick the languages.
- Tap Translate document text and download the result.
The PDF is read in your browser with PDF.js. Only the text is sent for translation (on-device in newer Chrome desktop, otherwise via MyMemory with about 5,000 characters per device per day). Scanned PDFs have no text layer and need OCR, which is on our roadmap.
Frequently asked questions
Will the layout be kept?
No. You get clean translated text, which is ideal for reading, emails and captions.
How long a document can I translate free?
About 5,000 characters a day when MyMemory is used (around 2 pages). Chrome desktop with on-device translation has no fixed daily limit.
Can it translate scanned PDFs?
Not yet. Scanned pages are images and need OCR first.
