Many UAE residents spend hours queuing or paying for services they could complete themselves on official apps and websites. Labour contracts, work permit status, residency renewals and Emirates ID updates can increasingly be handled online with UAE PASS. The challenge is knowing which app to use, which documents to prepare and what each step means. This guide explains the main self-service routes and how to prepare, so your next visit, or your online application, goes more smoothly.
Tasheel, Amer and the official apps: who does what?
- MOHRE (Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation) handles private-sector labour matters: work permits, labour contracts, renewals and cancellations. In-person transactions are handled at MOHRE-approved business service centres, widely known as Tasheel centres, while much of the work can be done on the MOHRE app and website.
- GDRFA Dubai handles Dubai residency and entry permits, including family visas, residency renewals, newborn residency and status tracking. Amer centres are GDRFA Dubai's customer service channels, and many services are available on the GDRFA DXB and DubaiNow apps and the GDRFA smart services website.
- ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security) handles Emirates ID issue, renewal and replacement, and federal residency services, through the UAEICP app and ICP smart services.
Step 1: Set up UAE PASS properly
UAE PASS is the national digital identity used to log in to most government apps. Make sure your account is verified (not just basic), linked to your Emirates ID and working on your own phone. Never share your UAE PASS password or one-time passwords with anyone, including agents and consultants.
Step 2: Install the right apps
- MOHRE app for labour contracts, work permit status and employer services.
- GDRFA DXB or DubaiNow for Dubai residency and family visa services.
- UAEICP for Emirates ID and federal residency services.
Download apps only from the official Apple App Store, Google Play or the authority's own website, and check the publisher name before installing.
Step 3: Prepare your documents before you start
Most delays come from missing or unclear documents. Depending on the service, you may need:
- A passport valid for the period the authority requires (for Emirates ID renewal, ICP asks for at least three months' validity).
- Your Emirates ID and residence visa details.
- A recent passport-style photo that meets the authority's photo rules.
- For family visas: marriage certificate, children's birth certificates (attested where required), tenancy contract and salary certificate or labour contract.
- For business owners: trade licence and establishment card details, plus employee passport and Emirates ID details.
- Medical fitness and health insurance details where the service requires them.
- A payment card for government fees, which you pay directly to the authority.
Step 4: Common self-service tasks
- Download your labour contract from the MOHRE app after logging in with UAE PASS.
- Check work permit or labour card status in the MOHRE app or website.
- Renew Dubai residency through GDRFA DXB, DubaiNow or the GDRFA smart services portal.
- Apply for a family residence entry permit for a spouse or children through GDRFA channels.
- Renew or replace an Emirates ID through the UAEICP app; adults usually need to visit a service centre for biometrics.
- Track an application or check fines on the relevant authority's app.
Fees, rules and processing times change, so always confirm the current requirements on the official app or website before you submit. MOHRE, for example, announced simpler services with fewer documents in 2026.
Step 5: Know when to go in person
Some steps still need a visit: biometrics for Emirates ID, certain document checks or cases the app cannot complete. Book an appointment where possible, bring originals and copies, and arrive early. For labour disputes, salary complaints or questions about your legal rights, contact MOHRE directly or a licensed legal consultant. These are legal matters, not something a guidance service should advise on.
Mistakes that cause delays
- Photos that do not meet the specification, or reusing the same photo as your current Emirates ID when a new one is required.
- Passport validity too short for the service.
- Names spelled differently across documents.
- Paying a fake website or a person who promises "guaranteed approval". Only pay government fees on official channels.
Want someone to guide you step by step?
Our Self Tasheel & Amer Guidance Consultation (AED 300) is a 45-minute online session. We guide you on your own screen while you complete your own application on the official app or website, then send you a personalised document checklist.
- We never ask for your UAE PASS password or OTP, and we never submit anything on your behalf.
- Government fees are separate and paid by you directly to the authority.
- Decisions, approvals and timelines are made only by the authorities. No result is promised.
- This is not legal advice, and we are not a typing, Amer or Tasheel centre.
For Hindi and Bengali speakers
Many people search "Emirates ID renew kaise kare" or "দুবাই ভিসা রিনিউ অনলাইন". The official apps are available in English and Arabic, which can be confusing if neither is your first language. Our guidance sessions can be held in English, Hindi or Bengali, so you understand every step while you complete it yourself.
Quick preparation checklist
- Verified UAE PASS on your own phone.
- Correct official apps installed.
- Passport, Emirates ID, visa details and a compliant photo ready.
- Supporting documents for your specific service.
- A payment card for government fees.
- Current requirements checked on the official app or website.
